Case Study: Leadership Team’s 99 problems…

The client: Medium sized Sydney based business

After a period of volatile results, increasing market competition, recent changes to the leadership team and knowing there was a huge opportunity to LIFT the bar, the Executive sighed and said, “Where do I even begin, Louise?”

Symptom here, symptom there. 99 problems but what’s really going on?

Because symptoms are different to disease.

We needed to use the right tool. Afterall, you don’t take your blood pressure with a thermometer.

The approach was one I enjoy taking with medium sized businesses.

What we did:

  1. The Executive completed the Team Symptoms and Strengths Test (which you can take for free here).
  2. I conducted 1:1 interviews with each of the leadership team members to get validation of the approach
  3. We conducted a Team Power Profile – the good, the bad and the intriguing with a list of possible recommendations
  4. I debriefed the leadership team with the results and identified possible actions
  5. Together we assessed actions for impact and prioritised – which meant deciding to move forward as a leadership team with a focus on two commitments only.

The next phase of focus for the leadership team is on defining and meaningfully articulating Purpose, Vision, Goals, Priorities, Role clarity and expectations.

I’ll continue working with this team and providing 1:1 executive coaching over the next few months.

They’re good people doing great things and personally I can’t wait to see the growth of this business skyrocket as a result of the things these leaders say and do. Their leadership shadows are long.

Outcomes achieved:

  • Articulated company wide purpose, vision, goals
  • Clarity, alignment and commitment amongst Senior Leadership Team
  • Clear understanding of team strengths to harness and weaknesses to address barriers to high performance

This is all part of my Team Strength Program, see more details here.

What did they say?

“I had the pleasure of working with Louise for our first leadership team coaching session, and I must say her facilitation skills were exceptional. She created a safe and comfortable environment that allowed us to openly discuss our strengths and weaknesses without feeling put on the spot. Louise took the time to thoroughly cover opportunities and prioritise a shared team focus towards an achievable short-term goal. As a result, I left the session feeling confident in our ability to complete it. Additionally, I was impressed by her ability to efficiently use time during the session, which is an area where my team often struggles during internal leadership team discussions. Overall, I highly recommend Louise for her facilitation skills. She creates a collaborative and productive environment, prioritises team goals, and is sensitive to the needs of the team. Her professionalism and dedication to achieving desired outcomes are commendable, and I look forward to working with her again in the future.”

“Louise’s approach allowed the team to talk openly when discussing organisational change. Our session was really helpful and I loved that after reading through our results we were able to collectively brainstorm a plan that was transformative, yet not overwhelming. Louise has a great personality and brought humour to our session and it was truly so relaxed yet engaging the whole time.”

“Louise created a very safe environment for my team to openly discuss both strengths and weaknesses that we individually identify in the team. In addition, at no point did I feel put on the spot and I think I can speak for my team when I say that too. Opportunities were thoroughly covered and the prioritisation of a shared team focus towards an achievable short term item had me finishing the first session confident in our ability to complete it. The session was also facilitated to efficiently use time, which is an area we often struggle in when conducting leadership team discussions internally.”

“All was fantastic”

“Louise, your approach allowed the team to talk openly when discussing organisational change. Our session was really helpful and I loved that after reading through our results we were able to collectively brainstorm a plan that was helpful yet not overwhelming. I thoroughly enjoyed our session.”
